Grilled Hawaiian Pizza and a Tempo Run

Before I talk about today’s run, I want to mention dinner last night – Hawaiian pizzas made on the grill. Yum! I used the pizza dough from Trader Joes, rolled it out and heated it for a few minutes on the grill. Then took it off and added the pizza sauce, some crushed canned pineapple, Canadian bacon, and mozzarella cheese and put it back on the grill for about 7 minutes or so. Jason even compared it to California Pizza Kitchen. I was just so pleased with myself.

OK, so this morning I stuck to my commitment for a tempo run. Two speed workouts in one week- that’s a personal record! My plan was a 30 minute run. My plan was to start 5 minutes with a warmup of about 8:30, then increase to about 8:00 for 5 minutes, then build to 7:30 for about 15 minutes, and then a 5 minute cool down of about 8:30. And because I knew I would not be able to remember what to do I wrote it down:

Here is what actually happened:
5 minutes at 8:15-8:20
5 minutes at 7:30-8:00 (kept telling myself to slow it down a bit)
15 minutes at 7:00-7:30
5 minutes at 8:00-8:10

The 15 minute fast part got hard towards the end, and I almost cut it short. But I saw that I only had 5 minutes to go and told myself I can do anything for 5 minutes. I’m glad I toughed it out. That’s where we get stronger, right?

At the end of 30 minutes, I had gone 3.9 miles. Since the OCD runner in me can’t handle not seeing a nice even number on the Garmin, I did that extra .10 mile.

Mile splits looked like this:
Mile 1- 8:15
Mile 2- 7:26
Mile 3- 7:15
Mile 4- 7:52

I still have a lot to learn about building up gradually, but I am determined to keep with it.

Now it’s time to get on with the rest of the day. Need to get packing for Chicago! I plan on doing a Pilates workout again tonight. For some reason, Pilates is one of those workouts I like to do at night. Weird?
Have a great day!
